ABC to launch new ABC 4 Kids branding

April 21, 20116 Comments

The ABC is set to launch new on air branding for ABC2’s preschool programming to coincide with the recent ABC1 and ABC2 on air identity updates. Preschool programming will now be seen on ABC2 for 13 hours from 6am to 7pm daily, the programming block will be renamed ABC 4 Kids moving away from ABC For Kids on 2 which launched at the same time as ABC3.

A new look ABC 4 Kids logo will launch on air and online from May 2nd to coincide with the extended preschool hours on ABC2.

Bright, new bold colours of yellow, red, blue and green will make it easy to identify by parents.

ABC TV’s Head of Marketing and Promotions, Diana Costantini said, “The ABC TV channels have recently undergone a rebrand across the board and ABC 4 Kids completes the picture with a new logo and fresh look and feel. The logo has a visual relationship with the highly successful ABC3 brand but at the same time, we’ve created real definition.  In fact, it’s a cheeky little logo that will certainly have strong appeal for our preschool audiences.”

ABC TV’s Controller of Children’s Television Tim Brooke-Hunt added, “The new ABC 4 Kids logo allows our audience to easily locate their favourite ABC TV preschool content on one channel and online. So from May 2 if you are under the age of 5, ABC 4 Kids is the channel for you. ABC3 will continue to air 15 hours of programs a day for those over 5 years old.”

I live in regional North West Queensland and we don’t yet receive digital tv, so no ABC2 or ABC3 yet. As the children’s shows are moving away from ABC1, does this mean we won’t receive any children’s shows?

By 2013 all of Australia’s TV will be digital, so by then you should start getting ABC2, ABC3 and other digital channels

Yup, as usual us regional folk get left out. And yes Dan, it is 2013 when my area of regional WA gets digital so my now 4 year old will be 6 by then.

Dan, that really doesn’t answer Benita’s question, and I also have the same question.

Does it now mean that all ABC1 (Analog) Kids shows will NOW only be on digital ABC 2 and ABC 3??

From Monday May 2, ABC News Breakfast will be moving from ABC2 to ABC1 replacing the children’s programming currently seen on ABC1. There will be a small block of kid’s shows from 10am to 11am.
